What is an A value?
A is essentially how much a player's rating goes up when they beat someone with the same rating.
This varies with the tournament. For large one-day events A=10; for multi-day events it is more. Up to 18 for NSW Junior Championships. A is lower for teams events and for events restricted by age, rating, sex, region or time (but lightning events are not rated).
Tournament Types
The list of tournaments to select from determines the A value used for the games.
If the tournament is a double round robin, the A value is halved with one added.
Note:
- Regular quarterly events do NOT include SAC events at a specific location as there are so many to choose from.
- "Restricted" means an age or rating restricted event held at the same time as an Open event.
- "Monthly" would include all of SAC's U18 events.
- "Weekly" would include SAC's regular age or rating restricted events, though originally included for chess club comp may play 1 or 2 games per week.
